I have been a client of Gay's for over 10 years. As a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and someone who has battled the bulge all of my life, having a bodybugg™ has been a revelation. Prior to wearing my bodybugg™, I attempted to estimate calorie burn against calorie intake since I am very active and I need to eat enough to stay energized and healthy. I found this a challenge since I am 5'1" and am 57 years old, not the typical woman that the calculations address. I have been wearing the bodybugg™ since April 2005. My goal was to lose 6 lbs, something I have wanted to do for 3 years. I have lost 8 lbs in 6 months. Three factors made the difference - knowing my daily calorie burn, keeping the Apex Management Food Log (this kept me honest) and going slowly, using the calorie deficit that Gay set for me as my daily target. The weight has come off slowly without the usual sense of deprivation that would cause me to regress in the past. I have also found it useful to develop a Buddhist approach toward food, one of nonattachment and an attitude of nonjudgmental observation. Emotions would get in my way of success and I would often forget it was me I was trying to take care of and not my ego.
I am grateful to Gay and her healthy orientation to energy balance. She has encouraged me to eat "real food" and not the sugar-free, fat-free fake food that I was feeding my ego with!!
