South Beach Diet for weight loss
Q. My wife & I have started the South Beach diet plan. My concerns are, I have hypertension, high cholesteral, and have a history of polyps in my colon. My family doc. said I should have a fat free, sodium free, high fiber diet. Should I be on this diet? I am 5'7" 165#. my target is loss 10-15 # in 45 days. Is there such thing as a low fat, low carb, low sodium, high protien, high fiber, high vitamin diet? Sincerely, BB
A. Whatever works best for you and your wife and your lifestyle dynamics. I think the South Beach diet is a good way to learn to eat healthier. Basically lean protein from lean beef, poultry, fish, the right fats from nuts and seeds, plant oils, and coldwater fish, lots of fresh vegetables (green, red, orange, and yellow), fruit (1 fruit for every vegetable), and whole grains is the best way to go. Get organic, and natural foods if you can. Get at least 45 minutes exercise 5 times a week and this combination of good nutrition and exercise should bring your blood pressure and cholesterol down. Take a good multivitamin, antioxidant formula, and drink plenty of water. The best to you and your wife in achieving your health and fitness goals.
