Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator

Body Mass Index (BMI), a way of comparing height to weight, can serve as a tool for determining a healthy weight. BMI is a predictor of obesity and health risk in the majority of men and women regardless of body composition, frame size, age, or gender. It is not usually an accurate measurement for people who are under 18, elderly people, pregnant or breastfeeding women, some athletes, or body builders. A BMI of 18.5 to 25.0 is considered within normal ranges. People with a BMI >27 are at an increased risk for developing heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, stroke, certain types of cancer and other obesity related disease. Body composition and waist circumference are also very important for the determination of health and disease risk. BMI can also be used to determine proper weight for height.
