Waist to Hip Ratio Calculator

To determine if you have a healthy waist to hip ratio (WHR) use a tape measure to measure the circumference of your hips at the widest part of your buttocks. Then measure your waist at the smaller circumference of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button.

To determine the ratio, divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement.  Or you can use this calculator above to determine the ratio for you.

Research shows that people with "apple-shaped" bodies (with more weight around the waist) face more health risks such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease than those with "pear-shaped" bodies who carry more weight around the hips. The following WHR indicate an increase in health risks.

WHR

Male > .95

Female > .80

The same conditions are more prevalent in people with the following waist measurements.

Waist Circumference

Male > 40 inches

Female > 35 inches
