Digestive Challenges

Symptoms such as gas, bloating, cramping, indigestion, loose stools, or constipation are often signs that something is out of balance. The GI tract is a complex organ responsible for digestion, the absorption of nutrients, the production of vital hormones, neurotransmitters, nutrients and genetic material, and it is a selective barrier to protect the body from toxins. The gut is home to trillions of microbes (the microbiome), diverse organisms that indirectly help manage nearly every bodily function and are in constant communication.

Our individual microbiomes are sometimes called our “genetic footprints” since they help determine our unique DNA, hereditary factors, predisposition to diseases, body type or body “set point weight,” and much more. Some research shows that up to 90 percent of all diseases can be traced in some way back to the gut and health of the microbiome. Poor gut health can lead to leaky gut syndrome and microbiome imbalance. The digestive tract in many ways is considered a major control center for the body. Identifying possible sources of GI symptoms and healing the gut can improve other symptoms such as insomnia, achy joints, depression, fatigue, autoimmune disorders, food sensitivities, hormone imbalances or the inability to lose or gain weight. Let’s figure out what is causing your GI symptoms and heal your gut.

I could not ask for a better healthcare provider than Gay Riley. She has helped me both physically and mentally throughout my journey with Crohn's disease, helping me to balance my diet, boost my immunity, decrease stress, and significantly improve my stomach issues. When I first came to see Gay, I had extremely high inflammation markers and symptoms including extreme stomach pain, diarrhea, acid reflux, malnutrition, and back/joint pain. Gay has been an amazing supporter through my journey and has gone above and beyond to care for me. She has taught me how to take care of both my mind and body and is truly one of the kindest people I have come to know.

~Caroline, Teacher

After seeing 2 GI doctors and a nutritionist for severe abdominal pain and diarrhea with no resolution, I found Gay. I came to her with extensive test reports, but she recommended a different test. I resisted but finally gave in when things weren’t getting better. She found the source of the issue. I had been suffering for almost a year. I had a parasite. Gay told me to go to my doctor with the test report and get a specific medication to treat it. She also told me foods to support my body while on the drugs and after. All fixed.
